Here’s a way to make the tough slog of a film festival more bearable. A press release for the upcoming fifth anniversary of the Indie Lounge at the Sundance film festival Jan. 22-25, 2015 touts the amenities at this sanctuary from the hustle and bustle.
“Guests are greeted at the front entrance by an Indie Lounge Ambassador who gives a brief tour of their numerous amenities including the oxygen bar, gaming center, and virtual golf course before whisking them away to Power & Industry’s Gifting Suite,” says a press release for Power & Industry’s Independent Filmmakers Lounge—operates the Indie Lounge. “Participants are invited to try the latest in cinematic advances, clothing apparel, and personal electronics or encouraged to stop by the Industry Parlor for a foot and shoulder massage.”
Ooooh! A foot massage!
The lounge hospitality is underwritten by sponsors of products and services—some of which are given away in gift bags—more commonly referred to as swag. The Indie Lounge sponsors include snack food outfit Frito Lay, Fubili Clothing, Wawi Chocolates and Utah Film Locations. Blue-chip sponsors like film festival audiences, which tend to be an upscale demographic.
Over 2,000 invitees go through the Indie Lounge at each fest, which is located in Park City where the Sundance fest is held. The invitees are mostly producers and directors, says Power & Industry Gifting Suite.
