‘Need For Speed’ Showcases Ford Car

January 14, 2014 by Robert Marich Leave a Comment

Need For Speed

The Ford car in “Need For Speed” is based on the car-cult favorite 2013 Shelby GT 500.

The Ford Mustang car gets a starring role in “Need for Speed” with an on-screen product placement before the same 2015 model appears in automobile dealer showrooms in autumn. It’s derived from the 2013 Shelby GT500.

The yet-to-be rated movie premieres March 14 from Disney’s Buena Vista Distribution, which markets for the producer DreamWorks Studios. The “Need For Speed” movie is based on the Electronic Arts video game.

This is a full integration promotion. The Mustang car is a star of the movie. Ford is promoting the movie. The car was unveiled in December at the historic TCL Chinese movie theater in Hollywood amid movie glitz.

Team Detroit, which is a unit of marketing services giant WPP, and Ford Motor’s Global Brand Entertainment handled the “Need For Speed” product placement.

“The Ford-designed and created made-for-movie Mustang will be featured prominently throughout the film and become part of the mythology of the movie,” says a Ford press release. “The Need For Speed Mustang features a custom-designed wide body, unique 22-inch alloy wheels, and larger air intakes to feed the supercharged V8 engine under its classic Mustang twin-nostril hood… Ford also provided the production with an F-450 truck known in the film as ‘The Beast,’ as well as another Mustang to serve as a specially designed camera car, which allows the filmmakers to capture car racing action in new and exciting ways. “

The author of “Marketing To Moviegoers” must confess a soft spot for the Mustang, because he owned a 1965 model in the early 1970s.
