A popular pre-schoolers toy brand books a one-time special movie screening “Thomas & Friends On The Big Screen” via Fathom Events.
It’s part of a budding trend of non-theatrical audio/visual content showing one or a few times, mostly in slots when cinemas would otherwise be dark. “Thomas & Friends” played once at a 10 a.m. Saturday screening time with its live-action presentation of toy trains from “Thomas the Tank Engine.”
Movie theater owners are making headway in a long-desired ambition to book non-theatrical movie attractions.
Says a Fathom Events press release: “Thomas & Friends On The Big Screen” will include a 60-minute screening of Thomas & Friends content that will introduce three new characters and feature exciting sing-a-longs, trivia and more. As a special bonus, all ticket holders will receive a complimentary Thomas & Friends activity book and a Wal-Mart gift card valued at $5.00.Tickets for “Thomas & Friends On The Big Screen” can be purchased for $7.00 (children under 2 will be admitted free).
UPDATE: Afterwards, distributor Fathom Events says that “Thomas” was a success, but did not provide any specific boxoffice data. Fathom did say some screenings were completely sold out.
