Dairy Queen and Red Robin mounted separate movie promotions, which are rare for these two restaurant chains.
Dairy Queen hooked up with “Jurassic World,” which achieved a blockbuster premiere June 12 for Universal Pictures and is rated PG-13, while Red Robin ties to “Terminator Genisys,” which Paramount Pictures will premiere July 1. “Terminator” is not yet audience rated.
Both restaurant chains were mum about their movie promotions, except for issuing separate press releases (see links below).
Dairy Queen (and its associated DQ Grill & Chill) hasn’t done a movie promotion in 20 years. Its “Jurassic World” tie-in promotion involves point-of-purchase signage, movie-themed drinking cups in six sizes and two movie-themed menu items “The DQ marketing campaign for ‘Jurassic World,’ includes television and digital advertising as well as social media and PR support,” says a press release from Dairy Queen last month.
Regarding Red Robin, now through Aug. 23 the restaurant chain runs its tie-in with “Terminator Genisys”. “Additionally, Red Robin’s latest Burger & A Movie™ promotion puts the spotlight on guests, with an offer to receive a free movie ticket to see ‘Terminator Genisys’ when they purchase a $25 limited edition Red Robin gift card,” says a Red Robin press release. “To drum up additional excitement for the upcoming film, Red Robin is encouraging guests to share pictures while enjoying ‘The Genisys Burger’ on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #RRillbeback. The Gourmet Burger Authority will select one lucky winner each week during the first month the movie is in theatres to win free Red Robin burgers for a year.”
Red Robin did a promotion in 2013 with 20th Century Fox’s “The Wolverine” movie.
