Studio Deja Vu Selecting Premiere Dates

    May 22, 2008 – Hollywood studios stake out release dates for their big summer films a year in advance and chose weekends that in past years have worked for similar films, notes a Los Angeles Times article. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Cyrstal Skull opens Memorial Day weekend, just like the previous sequels to Raiders of the Lost Ark.
    “Paramount and Marvel Studios set the tone this summer when Iron Man followed the path of other comic book superheroes by ruling the box office on the first weekend of May, the traditional start of the summer movie season. Between Spider-Man and X-Men,” notes the article by Josh Friedman. “Marvel films have kicked off four of Hollywood's last seven summers.”
