NY Times: Grim Summer BO Outlook

    May 15, 2008 – Will Hollywood stumble at the peak summer box office because – for a change – its slate isn’t loaded with familiar sequels? A New York Times article notes the four sequels this summer Indiana Jones, Narnia, The Mummy and The Dark Knight (a Batman follow-on) would have to out gross their predecessors, which is unlikely except for Indiana Jones – whose prior incarnation from long ago is sized down due to ticket inflation. “Repeating last year’s performance looks like a long shot,” notes the article by Michael Cieply. The article adds comparisons should be easier for autumn, given last year’s end-year slate bombed.
