NY Times: 2 Films Early Oscar Favorites

Sept 29, 2008 – Movies angling for Oscar recognition are lining up to present themselves and a New York Times article says Paramount’s mystical fantasy The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Universal’s Frost/Nixon are the front runners.
Other films also in the running are Universal’s Flash of Genius, Universal again for Changeling directed by Clint Eastwood, Paramount/DreamWorks’ The Soloist, 20th Century Fox’s Australia, Sony Pictures Seven Pounds and Sony/MGM’s James Bond film Quantum of Solace.
Notes the newspaper article by Michael Cieply, “Some publicists who specialize in Oscar campaigns are privately predicting a year-end shootout between Button and Frost/Nixon, a planned December release from Universal Pictures, directed by Ron Howard and with Michael Sheen and Frank Langella in the title roles. The films have been seen by few, but the campaign machinery is already lining up behind them.”
Button recounts the life of a man born into the world at age 70 and ages in reverse to infancy, and Frost/Nixon is about the famous interview dual of the disgraced U.S. president.
