Did Angry Fanboys Rip 'Jedi' for Feminism?

   Dec. 21 2017-There's a buzz quesntioning whether riled-up fanboys drove down user-ratings for Star Wars: The Last Jedi  for its alleged feminist-friendly agenda.
   A Variety article by Todd Spangler notes that movie rating website Rotten Tomatoes reported that film critics gave Jedi a lofty 92% rating, but the website’s users just 54%. There were claims

that automated bots unleashed by disaffected fans drove down user ratings for the Walt Disney Studios sci-fi blockbuster.
   “Someone affiliated with a Facebook group called ‘Down With Disney’s Treatment of Franchises and its Fanboys’ has claimed that he enlisted bots to spam Rotter Tomatoes with negative reviews of Last Jedi, according to a report by the Huffington Post. That’s allegedly because he was angry about Star Wars producers emasculating characters like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).”
   The sourced Huffington Post article carefully examines the issue. The post by Bill Bradley and Matthew Jacobs notes that there could have been user confusion in ratings with another new release—The Shape of Water. On the other hand, the Down With Disney crowd on Facebook might have intentionally ripped Jedi about feminist touches.
