Cannes Fest loves big money $ponsors

  May 29 2012- The Cannes Film Festival serves up many films the vilify the business class, but the same "filthy one percenters" and their luxury goods suppliers are welcome with open arms as fest sponsors and funders of swank parties on the crossette.
   Here are some examples of the Cannes fest smoozing with big-money sponsors:
  • Chivas Regal Scotch whiskey teamed with actor Cuba Gooding Jr. to “celebrate Filmaid’s work in Cannes,” says a press release, as the distiller puts on a Good Corporate Global Citizen mantle with a tie to the Filmaid charity. “Chivas Regal, the original luxury whisky and official sponsor of the 65th Festival De Cannes, reaffirmed its commitment to its global brand partner FilmAid International after announcing plans for anew global fundraising programme.”
  • Nutrisystems weight loss said when its presenter—singer Janet Jackson—arrived at a Cannes event, “Ms. Jackson glowed in a Pucci by Peter Dundas gown, shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti and jewelry by Pomellato.” The event was for Cinema Against AIDS—so that’s another Good Corporate Citizen forray.
  • Luxury wrist watch maker IWC Schaffhausen “hosted another glamorous evening event demonstrating its commitment to film and film-makers,” says a press release. “The exclusive Filmmakers Dinner, which was presented in partnership with Finch's Quarterly Review and, for the first time, Mercedes-AMG, was attended by famous personalities such as Oscar winner Robert De Niro, actor Ewan McGregor and top model Karolina Kurkova.” Ooooh…aaaah!
  • Gucci co-sponsored a party celebrating the restoration of Once Upon A Time in America and Robert DeNiro attended.
  • The parties went on despite heavy rain. The NY Post newspaper citing Microsoft tycooon Paul Allen and film mogul Harvey Weinstein having big bashes.
The list of corporate entities hitching attaching themselves to the Cannes fest goes on and on. The corporate players are from diverse industries because they include Belvedere Vodka, Chopard jewelry/watches, Electrolux vacuum cleaners and Akamai Technologies.
